Pay Matrix Level 6 in Hand Salary

When calculating a central government employee’s base wage in India, it is crucial to refer to the Pay Matrix Table for Central Government Employees. The 7th Central Pay Commission instituted the pay scale matrix table. There has been this particular table in use since 2006. The Compensation Matrix is more than just a list of dollar amounts. Millions of workers’ paychecks are represented by the numbers in these cells.

Just what does “Pay Level” entail?

The Indian federal government uses a classification system called pay level to assign workers to different ranks. Considerations include the employee’s tenure in the position, the employee’s performance, and the company’s financial situation. There are 19 tiers in total, from Entry Level to Executive (including 13A). The higher your level, the more money you may expect to make. Employees at Level 1 start at a minimum of Rs. 18,000 per month in basic pay, while those at Level 18 can earn up to Rs. 2,50,000.

What are the benefits of the compensation matrix?

There are a number of benefits for Central Government Employees in India using the Pay Matrix Table. In the first place, it establishes a transparent and streamlined method for calculating government employees’ pay and benefits. Because of this, payrolls can be more easily comprehended and managed by business owners. Second, it expedites the process by which all workers determine their new starting salary following the annual raise. With this table, you may easily and fairly calculate your pay increase or decrease from the previous method.

How City Classification Affects Central Government Salaries

Did you know your government salary can vary by over ₹9,900 per month—just based on where you’re posted? Two key allowances—HRA and Transport Allowance—are determined by official city classifications.

City Classification Systems

🏠 House Rent Allowance (HRA)

  • X-Class Cities: 30% of basic pay
  • Y-Class Cities: 20% of basic pay
  • Z-Class Cities: 10% of basic pay

🚌 Transport Allowance (TA)

  • TPTA Cities (Higher TA): ₹3,600 + DA
  • Other Cities: ₹1,800 + DA

💡 These classifications work independently—your city could be Y-Class for HRA but still qualify for higher TA (TPTA).

Salary Breakdown: Basic Pay ₹35,400 (Level 6)

DA = 58% | DA on TA also included

📍 X-Class + TPTA City

  • Basic Pay: ₹35,400
  • DA (58%): ₹20,532
  • HRA (30%): ₹10,620
  • TA: ₹3,600
  • DA on TA: ₹2,088
Gross Salary: ₹72,240

📍 Y-Class + TPTA City

  • Basic Pay: ₹35,400
  • DA (58%): ₹20,532
  • HRA (20%): ₹7,080
  • TA: ₹3,600
  • DA on TA: ₹2,088
Gross Salary: ₹68,700

📍 Y-Class + Non-TPTA City

Gross Salary: ₹65,856

📍 Z-Class + Non-TPTA City

Applies to all cities not in X, Y, or TPTA lists

Why This Matters

  • ✅ A transfer from a Z-Class to an X-Class city can increase your monthly income by ₹9,924.
  • ✅ Always verify both HRA and TA classifications for your posting location.
  • ✅ DA is applied to TA as well—so higher TA also means higher DA on TA.
  • ✅ City lists are updated periodically by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
