Cabinet Approves 50% DA Hike from 1 1 2024: The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has granted approval for an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners, effective from January 1, 2024.
This decision entails a 4% increase from the current rate of 46% of the Basic Pay/Pension, aimed at mitigating the impact of inflation. The financial implication of this adjustment, encompassing both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief, amounts to Rs.12,868.72 crore annually. Approximately 49.18 lakh Central Government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners will benefit from this measure, which aligns with the prescribed formula based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

DA Touched a Significant Mark of 50%
The Dearness Allowance (DA) has reached a significant milestone of 50%. Effective from January 1, 2024, the key component of salary, DA, has been increased to 50% for all categories of Central Government employees, pensioners, and family pensioners, up from the previous rate of 46%. This achievement marks a momentous occasion as DA reaches the half-century mark in its lifespan. It is a cause for celebration as eligible government employees will now receive 50% of their basic salary as DA in their pay slips.
4th Time 4% Hike in DA
The Dearness Allowance has seen a consistent 4% increase for the fourth time in a row. Starting at 34%, the DA has incrementally risen by 4% in each period. Commencing at 34% in January 2022, the Central Government has progressively raised the Dearness Allowance by 4% in July 2022, January 2023, July 2023, and January 2024, ultimately reaching a total of 50%.

Tale of 50% DA Journey in the 7th CPC: The 7th Central Pay Commission introduced a fresh formula to compute the Dearness Allowance for the Central Government employees, effective from 1.1.2016. The DA kicks off at 2% in the initial installment starting from 1.7.2016! Witness the rollercoaster ride of DA with increments ranging from a modest one percent to a whopping five percent! Picture this: in July 2019, the rate skyrocketed by 5%, leaping from the existing 12%, and in July 2017, there was a cheeky 1% hike from the prevailing 4%! It is noteworthy that it took 96 months for DA to achieve the significant milestone of 50%. DA Jan 2024 Finmin Order
The Finance Ministry announced today, on the 3rd of December 2024, that it has authorized an increase in the Dearness Allowance for Central Government employees (Click to view order). Effective from the 1st of January 2024, the Dearness Allowance will rise from 46% to 50%. According to the official order, this 4% increment will result in arrears for two months, which will be disbursed in April 2024. The revised rate of 50% Dearness Allowance will reflect in the March 2024 salary slip. As per new CCS 10 RULES any promotion comes between January to June pay fixation in July & July to December pay fixation in January onwards. Not the question of Saturday.

My pay is not being fixed even after promotion. I have joined to new post on 30-12-2023 (saturday). My employer asked me to join on saturday, thats why I have joined. But PAO is objecting pay fixation saying that I cannot join on Saturday. Is there any specific orders in this regard?

As per new CCS (10) RULES any promotion between January to June pay fixation from July onwards & JULY to December in pay fixation from January only. given. Not on Saturday .
