Retirement of officers in Army in the next five years

50% Army Soldiers May Retire Within 5 Years of Recruitment Under Proposed Recruitment Model

Retirement of officers and Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) / Other Ranks (ORs) in Army in the next five years

Retirement of officers and Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) / Other Ranks (ORs) in Army is a continuous process. It is not feasible to accurately predict the number of posts to be vacated in the next five years on account of increasing of retirement age with promotion to the next rank, difficulty in predicting number of officers and JCOs / ORs picking up next rank, uncertainty in the number of personnel seeking premature retirement and number of officers and JCOs / ORs likely to be discharged on medical / disciplinary grounds. However, approximately 40,000 JCOs / ORs and 900 Officers retire annually.

In the officers cadre (excluding Army Medical Corps, Army Dental Corps and Military Nursing Service), out of the authorized strength of 47,574 the present strength of officers is 39,585. Approximately 2500 officers are recruited every year through various entries.

In case of JCOs / ORs, the authorized strength is 11,64,738 and present strength is 11,37,810. There is no deficiency in JCOs / ORs as the number of recruits under training are more than the vacancies at any given point of time.

Timely action for filling up of vacancies arising from time to time is an ongoing process. Further, to address the issue of cumulative shortage of officers in the Army, a number of steps have been taken which include making the service more attractive by way of reduction in time required for promotions, introduction of Colonel (Time Scale) rank, upgradation of posts in Select Ranks for enhancing promotional avenues increasing the tenure of Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) from 10 years to 14 years, sanction of additional Service Selection Boards (SSBs) for increasing selection rate of officers, augmentation of pre-commissioning training facilities, implementation of recommendations of the VI Central Pay Commission with improvements in the pay structure of officers of Armed Forces etc.

Further, Armed Forces have undertaken sustained image projection and publicity campaign to create awareness among the youth on the advantages of taking up a challenging and satisfying career. Awareness campaigns, participation in career fairs and exhibitions, advertisements in print and electronic media, motivational lectures in schools, colleges are some of the other measures in this direction.

SSC officers must get prorata pension with respect to the length of service in Services.Tjey are at the mercy of God and left in lurch as most of them are not regularised in Army and very good officers among them are result of victimisation .

The Quota of SSC Officers in direct recruitment of IFS/IAS/IPS should be revived as it was in decade of 60 and 70,s.All Officers(Retired) should form Union and file Writ Petition in Court if Central Govt do not revive Quota .It is disappointing that ESM are given quota in Group c and group D only.It only shows that IAS Officers sitting in DOPT are not willing to induct SSC Officer having OLQ ,s(Tested during defense service) in Civil services as they afraid from such well disciplined Officer dedicated to nation.

    ( 1 ) SSC officers should be granted pro-rata pension ( @ length of service / 20yrs * normal pension + D.R. thereon )
There proper rehabilitation is a must.
( 2 ) For PC officers who retire before 60 on a/c of pyramid structure of forces , proper rehabilitation is a must.
if someone retires at 54 he has numerous responsibilities — settle children or marry them

I agree with Francis. You do less work than a Nursing Asst. You are an officer and he is NCO with out getting any benefit as you do.All of you are in the habit of cribbing when ever any task is given that is other than schedule..You do not accept the TD happily nor any other out door duty.Actually you compare your self with corporate Nurses then only you will realize that what job you are doing and what return you are getting. To b very frank you are blessed and please don’t crib for any thing else. Just look after the ailing forces when ever they are in the Hospital.Bharat Mata Ki Jai / JAI HIND

You compare yourself with others in nursing profession outside the armed forces and then crib. You hardly do as much as a nursing assistant in the army.

    Dear sir/mam
With due respect I submit on behalf of Nursing officers of Military Nursing service, that we nurses of the Military Nursing service does not fall under the term of Army Officers. We come under ordinance 1943. the rank structures are given to these ladies in order to provide them kind of security and protection as a ladies. Every 3 years we also get posting to various stations in all army hospitals. We have very prolong and uneven pattern of working hours. Most of us get married to civilians. The Army Order does not allow for spouse posting for those nursing officers who are married to civilians. As such Govt has issued GOI in this respect for postings for those who are married to army/air force of naval officers or spouses are working in central govt. It is not practically correct. It is not also possible for all the nursing officers to get alliance from defences of central govt. Secondly, we always faces poverty of shortage of manpower. Due to shortage of manpower , we are deprived of leaves and benefits. Thirdly, since agesis we are requesting Govt to review our duty pattern for 8 hours, but no govt. has taken any measures for these issues. Even media also failed to address our issues. Armed forces medical service failed to address our issues positively to the Govt for improvement of service conditions. Nurses are the pillars of any health care system. Nursing officers of military nursing service do not want to equalize nursing service to the doctors of the armed forces medical services. It is only appeal to all that kindly look into our needs sympathetically. Please treat us human beings. We also have family, children, old parents, in-laws , all the relation unlike other human being in the society. We are also part of this very same society. Looking forward to voice out our needs. Thanks
