Effective starting July 1, 2021, Central Government employees will receive updated House Rent Allowance (HRA) rates in A, B, and C-class cities. New Transport Allowance from July 2025

Starting in July 2025, Transport Allowance will be provided to employees of the Central Government, including those of Railways, by their entitlement. The allocation of this allowance is determined based on the guidelines set forth by the 7th Pay Commission and is subject to adjustment according to the prevailing rate of Dearness Allowance. The Dearness Allowance rate is increased to 58% from 1.7.2025, then 58 percent of the Transport Allowance designated for the employee will be added to their entitled amount. The Transport Allowance will be adjusted in proportion to increases in the Dearness Allowance. To calculate the Transport Allowance, one can use a simple formula: Transport Allowance = Transport Allowance + (Transport Allowance x Current DA percentage)/100. Calculating the salary under the 7th Pay Commission involves using the Basic Salary (Basic Pay) at the Pay Matrix Level as a primary factor. This is a crucial component for determining the overall salary of Central Government staff. The monthly gross salary of government employees in India consists of Basic salary, Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and Transport Allowance, among other eligible allowances and incentives.

One may wonder about the steps involved in determining salaries based on the 7th Pay Commission. The Government has set fixed guidelines for salary fixation of Central Government employees since January 1st, 2016. It’s noteworthy that the fitment factor being used is 2.57.

The Commission announced a fresh pay fixation table, labeled as the ‘Pay Matrix Table’, for employees of the Central Government. The revised salary structure became operative on January 1st, 2016, and covers Pay Level 1 to Pay Level 18, taking into account level 13-A as well.

The upcoming update on Dearness Allowance, effective from July 1, 2025, is set to be revealed around mid-September 2025, pending approval from the cabinet for employees and pensioners of the central government.

The revised rate of House Rent Allowance for Central Government employees is 27%, 18%, and 9% of basic pay for X, Y, and Z class cities respectively.

The current rate of transport allowance for Central Government employees is Rs.1350 (Plus 50% of 1350) for TPTA cities and Rs.900 (Plus 50% of 900) for Other Places.
