How many categories are in Central Government Services?
Three Groups. The total Central government workforce has been divided into three categories such as Group A, Group B and Group C. The classification and pay scale as per the 7th pay commission is detailed in this link Classification of Posts in Central Government Services.
The calculation of the total salary of Central Government employees is based on the classification of posts (Group A, Group B, and Group C) and also based on place of work (Office location).
Calculation of monthly gross pay for Central Government employees of pay matrix level 4 (GP 2400) and the basic pay Rs. 38600. The below calculation table indicates the salary package of the employees working in various cities in India.
The Indian cities are classified into three segments for the purpose of House Rent Allowance. And the cities and towns are classified into two categories for the purpose of Transport allowance. We have given four types of tables for the basic pay Rs. 38600 of pay matrix level 4 for the employees who are working in X, Y, and Z cities.

Classified ‘Z’ Cities (8% HRA): Which are not covered by classification as X or Y cities or towns, which are all classified as Z class.
Other Places or Other Cities: All cities and towns other than TPTA Cities (including Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad & Noida).
