After the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, the salary calculation of Central Government employees based on the pay matrix level system instead of the Grade pay system with effect from 1.1.2016.
Pay Level Hand Salary Calculation
The total salary of the pay matrix level depends upon the place of posting. The gross salary of an employee of Central Government is included with Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance.
- Basic pay: As per the pay level of the pay matrix table
- Dearness Allowance: 17% (Current rate of DA from July 2019)
- House Rent Allowance: As per the place of posting
- Transport Allowance: As per the place of posting
The Indian cities are classified for the purpose of House rent allowance (HRA) as X, Y and Z [Detailed table given below].
And cities are classified for the purpose of calculation of Transport Allowance as A1 Cities and Other places [Detailed table given below].

How to calculate take-home salary?
After calculating the total salary with the calculator, the net salary after deduction will be calculated as given below.
In Central Government Services, deduction from the salary for fresh employees may be in the National Pension System (NPS) and Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS). 10% of basic pay plus DA for NPS. And for insurance with a minimum amount of Rs. 30 to Rs. 120 pm.
