DoPT Holiday List 2020

The Government of India is every year publishing a list of Holidays for Central Government Employees and administrative offices located in New Delhi and other than New Delhi.

In India, most of the nodal offices of Central Government are located in New Delhi. The holiday list has been prepared for the offices located at New Delhi and Central Government administrative offices located outside New Delhi. The Government holidays are called as Public Holidays and Closed Holidays. Almost all State Government and nationalized banks are followed the same list of holidays.

As per the notification, two lists of holidays table has been published for Central Government employees and their offices located across India. The first list is compulsory holidays and the second is restricted holidays. The compulsory holiday table contains 14 days which is common for all offices located in New Delhi and outside New Delhi. The restricted holiday table contains 34 days for New Delhi offices and another list of 12 days for outside New Delhi. Little bit confusion on this second list of 12 days for the offices located outside Delhi and New Delhi.

In India, festivals are celebrating on different days with different cultures. The Central Government is allowed choosing the date for holidays with the Coordination Committees in the respective States. The Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee has already setup in all States in India. The committee will decide three holidays from the restricted holiday list according to their feasibility of festivals.

Compulsory Holiday List 2020

Central Government Administrative Offices located outside Delhi – New Delhi shall observe the following holidays compulsorily.

1. REPUBLIC DAY
2. INDEPENDENCE DAY
3. MAHATMA GANDHI’S BIRTHDAY
4. BUDDHA PURNIMA
5. CHRISTMAS DAY
6. DUSSEHRA (VIJAY DASHMI)
7. DIWALI IDEEPAVALI)
8. GOOD FRIDAY
9. GURU NANAK’S BIRTHDAY
10. IDU’L FITR
11. IDU’L ZUHA
12. MAHAVIR JAYANTI
13. MUHARRAM
14. PROPHET MOHAMMAD’S BIRTHDAY (ID-E-MILAD)

In addition to the above 14 Compulsory holidays, three holidays shall be decided from the list indicated below by the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee.

Note that the Coordination Committee will finalize the list of 12 restricted holidays from the above detailed list. The first 9 occasions are common for all States and three occasions will only decide with the importance of local festivals.
