The increase in Bank Dearness Allowance (DA) from November 2023 to January 2024 is as follows: Following the release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2023, there has been a rise of 61 slabs in the calculation of DA for Bank Employees. This increase amounts to approximately 4.27% compared to the existing rate, resulting in a DA hike of 48.51% starting from November 2023 – IBA Circular on 1.11.2023

Dearness Allowance (DA) is a crucial component of the salary structure for bank employees in India. It is a form of compensation paid to employees to offset the impact of inflation on their purchasing power. The DA is calculated as a percentage of the employee’s basic salary and is revised every three months based on the fluctuations in the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPIN). The DA increment is eagerly awaited by bank employees as it directly impacts their take-home salary. With the rise and fall of the AICPIN, the DA percentage also changes, leading to fluctuations in the salary of bank employees. How to calculate bank DA: Here we explain how to calculate the percentage of DA with the example of the Dearness Allowance (DA) calculation formula is given below for bank employees as per the directions of 11th Bipartite Settlement (11th BPS) in clause 3 of Joint Note. Convert the CPI (IW) BY 2001=100 to Base Year 1960=100 using the conversion factor of (CPI x 4.63 x 4.93). And then minus 4440 with the value as per the decision in the 10th BPS/Joint Notes. 4440 points of DA were merged with the pay and the DA rate was fixed at 0.10% per slab.

For example, CPI (IW) BY 2016=100 for the months of April, May, and June 2023 as follows…

• CPI for April 2023 – 134.2
• CPI for May 2023 – 134.7
• CPI for June 2023 – 136.4

Conversion of Index
April 2023 – 134.2 x 4.63 x 4.93 x 2.88 = 8822.19
May 2023 – 134.7 x 4.63 x 4.93 x 2.88 = 8854.98
June 2023 – 136.4 x 4.63 x 4.93 x 2.88 = 8966.73

• Average of 3 months index = 8881
• 6352 Points Minus = 2529 (8881-6352)
• Divided by 4 = 632 (2529/4)
• Increased DA Slab: 36 (632-596)
• Dearness Allowance = 44.24%

So, all Bank workmen and officer employees will get 44.24 percent of pay as Dearness Allowance in the months of August, September, and October 2023!
