Child Care Leave for Single Man

The Honourable Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, has given his approval on the eligibility criteria for the Child Care Leave (CCL) benefits to single male service personnel. This decision will come as a huge relief to those men serving in the armed forces who have been seeking equal access to this much-needed benefit. The granting of CCL will allow these brave soldiers to be able to take time off to care for their children, just like their female counterparts, without having to worry about the impact it will have on their career progression or job security. It is a significant step towards gender equality and recognition of the important role that fathers play in raising their children.

According to the latest news from the media, it has been reported that the benefits of Child Care Leave will now be extended to Defence Personnel, bringing them at par with Central Government Employees. This new development will allow the personnel to take time off work to care for their children, without having to worry about the impact on their job or pay. This policy change is a welcome step towards creating a more family-friendly work environment for those serving in the Defence sector.

The Department of Personnel and Training released a Gazette Notification on December 11, 2018 that grants unmarried male government employees in Central Government Services a total of 730 days of Child Care Leave throughout their tenure.

It is permissible for both female and male Government employees to obtain child care leave from an authorized leave-granting agency for up to a total of seven hundred and thirty days during their entire tenure. This leave can be used to care for their two eldest surviving children, whether it is for nurturing or tending to any of their necessities, such as education, illness, and similar needs.

Child Care Leave is a wonderful opportunity provided to employees to take leave for a cumulative period of 2 years during their entire service for the purpose of taking care of their children. This leave can be availed until the children reach the age of 18 years. It is a thoughtful policy that recognizes the importance of family life and provides employees with the flexibility to balance their work and personal responsibilities. This leave can be a valuable time for parents to bond with their children and provide them with the care and attention they need during their formative years.

The CCL (Child Care Leave) facility is exclusively for women employees and single male employees working in Central Government Services, allowing them to take time off from work for a maximum period of seven hundred and thirty days during their entire service. This leave can be availed of in case of the employee’s need to take care of their child or children, and can be taken in phases, as long as the total duration of leave does not exceed the permissible limit.
