Central Government Health Scheme CGHS Holiday List 2023
CGHS Holiday List 2023: The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is a healthcare cashless scheme designed to cater to the medical needs of serving or retired Central Government employees and their dependents. It first came into existence in Delhi in 1954 with the primary objective of providing reimbursement for OPD medicines to Central Government employees who faced challenges in getting such benefits. However, with time, the scheme expanded to include dispensaries that offer OPD medicines as well. At the time of its inception, the scarcity of private hospitals was another reason for starting this scheme, which was not initially intended to have a pan-India reach. Over the years, this program has expanded to cover 25 cities across India, which has put a considerable burden on the limited resources available for the scheme’s implementation.

Facilities available under CGHS
The CGHS provides several facilities to its beneficiaries. These include outpatient treatment and medication, specialist consultations at government hospitals, hospitalization at both government and empanelled hospitals, investigations at government and empanelled diagnostic centers, and cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals and diagnostic centers for pensioners and other identified beneficiaries. The CGHS also offers reimbursement of expenses for emergency treatment in private unrecognized hospitals, as well as expenses incurred for the purchase of hearing aids, artificial limbs, and similar items. Family welfare and maternal and child health services are also available.
