DA for January 2023 is Concluded! 4% Additional DA Hike! 42% DA from January 2023 for CG Employees

The Union Cabinet Committee has approved an increase in the Dearness Allowance by 4%, which will be effective from the 1st of January 2023. With this approval, central government employees, pensioners and family pensioners will receive a total of 42% DA and DR on their basic pay or basic pension. The revised rate will be reflected in the salary for March 2023, while the arrears for January and February 2023 will be granted separately after an official order is issued by the Finance Ministry. The calculations for Dearness Allowance for the month of January 2023 have concluded. The sixth and last calculation of Dearness Allowance since issuing the AIPCIN for December 2022 is done. Central Government employees, pensioners, and family pensioners are now receiving 38% of their basic salary/pension as DA and DR every month. Following the Union Cabinet’s approval to increase DA from January 2023, orders will be issued from the Finance Ministry for payment of the revised DA/DR!

4% Additional Dearness Allowance from 1.1.2023

The Consumer Price Index (IW-BY 2016=100) from July-December 2022 showed a 4% rise in Dearness Allowance, pushing the total to 42%.

How to calculate 42% DA on Basic Salary?

Calculating Dearness Allowance (DA) at 42% on Basic Salary is a straightforward process. To illustrate, let’s assume that a Central Government employee’s initial basic salary is Rs. 49000. The computation for DA is as follows:

DA Arrears 2023 for CG employees

Usually, Dearness Allowance hikes are declared in March and September, taking effect from the following January and July, respectively. Accordingly, Dearness Allowance for the first two months of each period will be provided as arrears. On 1 January 2023, a further 4% increase in the Dearness Allowance rate will be applicable to all Central Government employees, pensioners, and those receiving family pensions. Existing CG employees will be provided with a 42% Dearness Allowance by March 2023, and arrears for the months of January and February 2023 will be paid out then as well. The Dearness Allowance or Dearness Relief will be calculated using the existing and retired employees’ respective basic pay or basic pension.

MP Govt Announces 4% DA

In a recent development, the state cabinet of Madhya Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has announced a 4% increase in dearness allowance for government employees and pensioners. The retrospective hike will be effective from January 1, 2023. The announcement was made by Dr. Narottam Mishra, the Home Minister, in a media briefing held after the cabinet meeting.     I retired as scientist/engr. SE from ADRIN,DOS , Govt. of India on 30/04/2022. Previously I attended DPC review meeting on 3 occasions but was denied promotion to selection grade Scientist/ Engr. “SF”. Is it possible for me to get promotion after retirement for no fault of me ? While my juniors were promoted supersiding me. I already worked in many projects at .ADRIN, DOS, Secunderabad, Govt. of India. P.O Manovikas Nagar.,PIN-500009

    Sir pranams we. Are very grateful that ministry has approved tentatively about da percentage from Jan 2023 for cental servants but the fitment benifit to be changed will have any effect for employees who retired after 30/6/2019

      Sir Iam retd rly servent I took VR 29/02/20 at the time my basic pension 29300rs +17%da after didaction of commutation at the time 23500rs pension now I taken 29741 rs pension is there any arrears expected? Please guide me.

    May basic pension Rs.24500, what will be new DR from 1.1.2023? What about DR arrears?

      Your new DA will be Rs. 10290 from Jan 2023 and Rs. 20580 as Arrears may be paid in the month of March 2023.

        Not yet approved. They will approve in March 23 but since there will be no funds for the year 2022-23. Anyhow it will be given arrears to employees in April,23. For pensioner it will be given on the 30/4/23 only.
