Labour Bureau Consumer Price Index – AICPIN Table

Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (Base Year 2001=100) is a key indicator used for regulation of Dearness Allowance and also used for real wage calculation. The Labour Bureau under Ministry of Labour and Employment is prepared the statistical indicator and published every month.

The CPI (IW) is compiled for 78 selected centers and these centers have been selected on the basis of industrial importance in the country.

The retail prices of cereals, pulses, vegetables and fruits, oils and fats, etc. are collected on a weekly basis. Similarly, the prices of some other items like cinema, furniture, utensils, clothing, house-hold appliances, etc., which are known to vary less frequently, are collected on monthly basis.

The statistical index is an important factor for calculating Dearness allowance for Central Government employees and Pensioners. Last working day of every month, the Labour Bureau is released the AICPIN of succeeding month.
