The Pay Matrix Table for Central Government Employees in India is an important table for figuring out the basic salary for central government employees. The 7th Central Pay Commission was the one who came up with the pay matrix table. Since 2006, this table has been in use. The Pay Matrix table is not just a list of numbers. Behind the number in each cell of this table is the salary account of tens of thousands of workers!
How does Pay Level work?
The Central Government of India uses a system called “pay level” to figure out the job title or grade of each of its employees. It depends on the employee’s current job and grade, among other things. There are 19 different levels of pay, ranging from Level 1 to Level 18. (including 13A). The pay range for each level is different, and the higher the level, the higher the pay. For example, a Level 1 worker’s basic pay starts at a minimum of Rs. 18,000, while a Level 18 worker can make up to Rs. 2,50,000 per month.

India’s Central Government Employees have a lot to gain from the Pay Matrix Table. First, it gives government workers a clear and simple way to figure out their pay and benefits. This makes it easier for employers to know how their payrolls work and keep track of them. Second, it makes sure that all employees find their next basic salary right away after their annual raise. This table makes it easy to figure out a fair pay fixation. It’s also easier than the old way of figuring out pay.

All you need are three main elements in order to calculate their monthly wage: the percentage of Dearness Allowance, the house rent allowance percentage, and the rate of transport allowance. The central government has divided the cities and towns in India into three categories such as Class X, Class Y, and Class Z, and the house rent has been determined accordingly. Similarly, cities in India have been divided into two categories to calculate the transport allowance. We have provided four types of salary structures based on the above categories.

Level-5 Salary Z Class & Others
Classified ‘Z’ Cities: These are not covered by classification as X or Y cities or towns, which are all classified as Z class. Other Places or Other Cities: All cities and towns other than TPTA Cities (including Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad & Noida). *Minimum HRA of Rs. 5400, Rs. 3600, and Rs. 1800 for Class A, B, and C respectively.

Basic Salary for State Govt Employees
- According to the resolution of Finance Department of Tamil Nadu on 11.10.2017, the basic salary of pay matrix level 5 is Rs. 18200.
- As per the notification of Rajasthan Government on 30.10.2017, the basic salary of pay matrix level 5 is Rs. 20800.
- As per the notification of Finance Department of Maharashtra Government on 30.1.2019, the basic salary of pay matrix level S5 is Rs. 18000.
- According to the resolution of Finance Department of Bihar on 24.5.2017, the basic salary of pay matrix level 5 is Rs.29200.
- As per the notification of Finance Department of West Bengal Government on 25.9.2019, the minimum basic salary in pay level 5 is Rs. 21000.
