To promote sustainable and responsible tourism, the Ministry has revamped the Swadesh Darshan Scheme as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0). Under SD2.0, the destinations of Leh and Kargil have been identified for development in Ladakh. Furthermore, financial assistance has been provided to the UT of Ladakh for organizing ‘Losar Festivals’ under the Domestic Promotion & Publicity including Hospitality (DPPH) Scheme.
The Ministry of Tourism has actively showcased Ladakh and its tourism products on the Incredible India website and through social media platforms. Ladakh is also prominently featured in the India pavilion at international travel fairs and exhibitions held abroad.
In terms of visiting restrictions, the UT Administration has eliminated the requirement of permits for domestic tourists in most areas of Ladakh, with the exception of a few pockets along the LAC and LoC due to security reasons. However, foreign tourists still need permits to access restricted areas within the UT. Additionally, the UT Administration, in collaboration with security forces, has established police check posts at designated locations and regularly issues advisories regarding health precautions, safety, and security.
