India has expressed its intention to submit a bid for hosting the Olympic Games in the year 2036
In October 2023, during the 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Mumbai, the Honorable Prime Minister announced India’s intention to submit a bid to host the Olympic Games in 2036. The Olympic bid process is overseen by the Future Host Commission (FHC) of the IOC, which now follows a continuous dialogue-based approach to select the host city or country. This involves an initial informal exchange that then progresses into a series of focused and ongoing discussions between the interested parties and the FHC, spanning a two-year period. The responsibility for the entire bid process lies with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of the respective country, in this case, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), which has already established communication with the FHC.
In response to your questions regarding the benefits of hosting mega sports events like the Olympic Games, it is indeed true that such endeavors provide significant international exposure for Indian athletes and contribute to positioning the country as a global sporting hub.
Furthermore, India’s performance in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Tokyo Paralympics 2020 was exceptional, marking the best-ever achievement by Indian sportspersons in both events. In the Tokyo Olympics, India secured seven medals (one Gold, two Silver, and four Bronze), while in the Tokyo Paralympics, India earned nineteen medals (five Gold, eight Silver, and six Bronze).
