Fixed Medical Allowance
It is granted to pensioners for meeting expenditure on day to day medical expenses that do not require hospitalization, presently payable at the rate of ₹500 pm. Demands have been received to increase the rate of this allowance to ₹2,000 pm.
Pensioners are not covered under the CS (MA) Rules. Pensioners residing outside CGHS areas are entitled to Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) @ ₹500 per month for their OPD/IPD needs. Such pensioners can also avail IPD/OPD under CGHS subject to some conditions.
Analysis and Recommendations : The Commission notes that this allowance was enhanced from ₹300 pm to ₹500 pm from 19.11.2014.
As such, further enhancement of this allowance is not recommended.
The Commission has received representations seeking enhancement in Fixed Medical Allowance, currently payable at the rate of ₹500 per month for pensioners not covered under Central Government Health Service (CGHS).

Sir, I am living in Kasganj Dist-Etah (UP) which is not a CGHS covered area. I am getting fixed medical allowance to cover day today medical expenses. I am now 85 years retired from post office as a postmaster HSG II. can I apply for CGHS card for getting in patient treatment with out stopping my fixed medical allowance. What is the procedure, where to apply and how much money I have to deposit. Please suggest.
1) You have surrender Fixed Medical Allowance.
2) As per 7th CPC basic pension Matrix Level of 12 months subscription you have to pay to the nearest CGHS Regional Pay & Accounts Officer for every year eligibility Card in each year. If you required Life Time Card you have to 120 months of your matrix level of subscription.
I retired from post office and getting fixed medical allowance Rs.1000/ month, am I authorise to get CGHS card for getting in patient treatment, and can it be reimbursed. I have not given CGHS card. How it can be made, if CGHS card made than my fixed medical allowance for day today medical expenses Will stopped or it will be continued, please comment
FMA stopped than you can be issued CGHS card. at once and avail the in-patent treatment. If it is earlier in-patent treatment you have to get the certificate from AMA. If he gives certificate then only reimbarseble.
Please please please raise fixer medical allows should be Rs 2000/= per month it is genuine. Pl raise this point.thank you sir.
Fixed medical allowance for central govt. employee @2000/- per month is not only genuine but appropriate also ,since the employee retires more or less when he gives up his entire service for the nation and rest of life with various ailments . Therefore, the fixed medical allowance should be treated as fixed medical compensation and amount should not be less than Rs.2000/- please.
Central pensioners are more in number than those in service. Glaring injustice in granting medical allowances to pensioners is a travesty oj justice. Next Ge n. Election will say yjigd
Rs. 2000/_ as fixed medical allowance is very genuine. My wife is a heart patient and going under the treatment of Hero Heart DMC. I am spending Rs. 2200/_ per month on her. Govt. should reconsider to enhance ATLEAST Rd. 2000/_ per month for day to day requirement of medicines.
Telecom pensioners are getting only Rs500/- pm as fixed medical allowance (FMA).
The demand was Rs.2000/-pm . I am astonished to read that the commission has not accepted this genuine demand of pensioners. Think of costs of medicines. Rs.500/ -is one time fee of the doctor. Rs2000/-pm is the very much genuine demand, it should be reconsidered.
