The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has recently notified the list of holidays for the year 2023 for the Central Government Offices located in Delhi/New Delhi. 17 Gazetted holidays and 33 Restricted holidays have been declared for Central Government employees working in Delhi/New Delhi. The same methodology will be followed for the CG employees working in Tamil Nadu also! The State Committee of ‘CGEWCC’ (Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee) will decide the list of gazetted and restricted holidays for the year 2023.

Tamil Nadu declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Friday (11.11.2022) and Saturday (12.11.2022) due to heavy rain. According to the forecast of RMC (Regional Meteorological Centre), Tamil Nadu Government issued a Red Alert for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Ranipet districts. Holidays declared for schools and colleges in Theni, Madurai, Karur, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Ramanathapuram, Trichy, Cuddalore, Pudukkottai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Kallakurichi districts due to heavy rain. The Puducherry Government declared a holiday for schools and colleges in and Karaikal regions on Friday (11.11.2022) and Saturday (12.11.2022)due to heavy rain.
Tamil Nadu School Holidays in November 2022: Tamil Nadu Government declared a holiday on 1st November 2022 (Tuesday) for schools and colleges in 9 districts due to heavy rain.
Tamil Nadu Government announced the Diwali festival holiday has been extended up to 25th October 2022 for all educational institutions. To compensate for this holiday, 19th November 2022 (Saturday) will be a working day.
The Tamil Nadu Education Minister has announced that the schools in Tamil Nadu will reopen on 13th June 2022 for the students studying in class 1 to class 10. And also the classes for the 11th and 12th standard students will begin on the 27th and 29th of June 2022 respectively.

Content of the Tamil Nadu Government G.O.(Ms.) No.682 dated 11th October 2022 regarding public holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 for the State Government Offices and all Commercial Banks including Co-operative Banks in Tamil Nadu for the year 2023.
The Government of Tamil Nadu pass the following orders in regard to the observance of Holidays in the State of Tamil Nadu for the year 2023:-
(i) Public Holidays: The Holidays declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act XXVI of 1881) indicated in the notification appended to this order will be published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette.
(ii) Government Holidays: The Government direct that all the offices under the control of the Government of Tamil Nadu be closed on:-
(a) The dates specified in the notification appended to this order (except the Annual Closing of Bank Accounts on 01.04.2023).
(b) All Saturdays and Sundays in the year 2023.
2. The above-notified Public Holidays shall also apply to all State Government Undertakings / Corporations / Boards, etc.
NOTIFICATION
Under the “Explanation” to section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act XXVI of 1881) read with Notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, No.20-25-26, Public-1, dated the 8th June 1957, the Government of Tamil Nadu hereby declares that in addition to “Sundays” expressly defined as Public Holidays in the said “Explanation”, the following days shall be Public Holidays for the year 2023. Applicable only to Commercial Banks and Co-operative Banks in Tamil Nadu.
