As per the Central Government notification issued on 18.6.2019, the Onam (Thiruvonam) Day declared as Restricted Holiday during the year 2020.

Onam 2020 Holidays – 30 August to 2 September

Onam is the harvest festival of Kerala, although it is celebrated on the account of arrival of an ancient king Mahabali that ruled Old Kerala. Onam is the most anticipated festival of the year in the God’s own country, and celebrated pompously by Malayalees all around the world. Onam festival is celebrated with grandeur and enthusiasm for ten days, but only four days are declared as holidays in the state i.e. August 30, 2020 to September 2, 2020.

How is Onam (Shravana ) celebrated?

Onam is a culturally-rich festival that reminisces the traditions and history to the Keralites. It involves various unique rituals like Pookalam (flower rangoli), Vallamkali (boat race), Athachamayam (street parade on day 1 of Onam), traditional music and dance forms like Kathakali, Thiruvathirakali, Pulikal, Kummattikali, Kasavu/Onam sarees and Onam Sadhya that exclusively belong to the culture of Kerala.

Most significant day of Onam is called Thiruvonam, which falls on August 31, 2020.
