The All India Consumer Price Index Number for the month of December 2022 was released by the Labour Bureau on the 31st of January 2023. It shows a slight decrease of 0.2 points from the previous month, with the index now standing at 132.3. This decrease is mainly attributed to the rise in prices of Food and Beverages group contributing 0.52 percentage points to the total change. At item level, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brinjal, Carrot, Onion, Potato, Tomato, Peas, Garlic, Chilies Green, Apple, Orange, Sunflower Oil, Vanaspati Oil and Poultry/Chicken etc. are responsible for the fall in index.
The All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AIPCIN) index is primarily used to calculate the Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central Government employees, pensioners, and family pensioners. This allowance increases twice a year, in January and July. The DA calculation is based on the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, with the formula provided below.
