All India Consumer Price Index Number for the month of February 2023

The statistical data for the month of February 2023 reveals that the All India Consumer Price Index Number (CPI-IW) has decreased slightly and now stands at 132.7. This press release containing the AICPIN figures was published by the Labor Bureau today.

The All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPIN) is a measure of the average change in prices of goods and services consumed by industrial workers in India. The base year for the AICPIN is 2016=100, which means that the index is set at 100 for the year 2016 and is adjusted each year based on the price changes in the basket of goods and services.

The AICPIN is used by the government of India to calculate the Dearness Allowance (DA) for industrial workers. The DA is an allowance paid to employees to offset the impact of inflation on their salaries. The DA is calculated as a percentage of the basic salary and is revised twice a year based on the changes in the AICPIN. The AICPIN is an important indicator of inflation in India and is closely watched by policymakers, economists, and investors.

In February of 2023, the All-India CPI-IW experienced a slight decrease of 0.1 point resulting in a total of 132.7 points. When evaluating the 1-month percentage change, there was also a decrease of 0.08%. It’s worth noting that this same decrease was observed during the same period of time last year between corresponding months.

Today the Labour Bureau (Ministry of Labour and Employment) released the statistical data of the All India Consumer Price Index for the month of September 2022. The Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers Base Year 2016-100 is increased by 1.1 points from the existing level and stands at 131.3. Hence the Expected DA calculation from the month of January 2023 is stepped to the next level.
