Central Government Jobs Under Sports Quota – List of Games

The government has introduced 20 new disciplines for Central Government Jobs under sports quota: Shri Kiren Rijiju

Government has recently introduced 20 new disciplines for Central Government jobs under the sports quota. The details of the newly introduced/included 20 sports disciplines for Central Government jobs under sports quota are given below:

  15. Sepak Takraw
  16. Soft Tennis
  17. Tenpin Bowling
  18. Triathlon
  19. Tug-of-war
  20. Wushu

The recruitment of meritorious sportspersons under sports quota is done as per the guidelines issued by the Department of Personnel & Training from time to time and it is applicable to only Central Government Ministries/Departments. “Sports” being State subject, these instructions are not binding for State Governments.

The Department of Personnel & Training in consultation with the Department of Sports, vide its OM dated 01st September, 2020 has included Mallakhamb, Tug of War and Roll Ball for appointment of meritorious sportspersons under sports quota in newly introduced 20 sports disciplines.

This information was given by Union Minister of State (IC) for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Kiren Rijiju in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.

Pension to the Retired Sportspersons

The Government is implementing the Scheme of Pension to Meritorious Sportsperson with an objective to provide assured monthly income through annuity for outstanding sportspersons. Under the existing Scheme, a monthly pension ranging from Rs.12,000/- to Rs.20,000/- is provided to the ex- sportspersons.

Currently, 829 ex-sportspersons are receiving benefits under the Scheme. State-wise list is not maintained in the Department.

The amount of pension to the ex-sportspersons has been increased over the years. The existing rates of pension are as under:-

3 Silver and Bronze medalists at the World Cup* in Olympic and Asian Games disciplines 14,000
4 Gold medalists of the Asian/ Commonwealth Games/Para Asian Games 14,000
5 Silver and Bronze medalists of the Asian/ Commonwealth Games/ Para Asian Games 12,000

This amount of monthly pension was last revised on 07.06.2018 wherein the amount under each category was doubled from the earlier existing amount.
