Public Distribution System Services
TNPDS has taken measures to ensure that citizens are informed about the holiday schedules of the nearest ration shop. They have set up a helpline that is available 24/7, which makes it easy for people to check the holiday schedule at any time. TNPDS has also partnered with local newspapers and radio stations to ensure that even those without access to the internet or a smartphone can stay informed. With these measures in place, citizens can plan their visits to the ration shops, making it easier for them to access essential items they need during the holidays. The Tamil Nadu Public Distribution System has introduced a scheme that benefits the needs of people. Every citizen now requires a smart card, which is divided into two categories: Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL). TNPDS portal assists in viewing their ration cards, latest transactions, village distribution centers, and more. The ration shops are open all days, except Sundays, weekly holidays, and government holidays.

Tamil Nadu Ration Shop Price List
The cost of goods sold at ration shops in Tamil Nadu is determined by the state government and is subject to fluctuations based on market conditions. To provide affordable prices for citizens, the government offers subsidies on certain items. The ration shops typically sell a variety of items, including rice, wheat, sugar, kerosene, palm oil, salt, toor dal, chana dal, and moong dal. The prices of these items may differ based on the category of the ration cardholder and family size. For instance, as per my understanding, the price of rice for a family holding a Below Poverty Line (BPL) card is Rs.3 per kg, while it is Rs.9 per kg for a family with an Above Poverty Line (APL) card. Similarly, the cost of sugar for a BPL family is Rs.13 per kg, whereas it is Rs.18 per kg for an APL family. It is essential to note that prices may vary over time, and the above information may not be accurate. It is advisable to confirm the current prices with the local ration shop or the TNPDS (Tamil Nadu Public Distribution System).
Tamil Nadu Ration Shop Working Days

For the convenience of citizens who rely on ration shops for their daily needs but whose ration cards may not be registered at their current residence, TNPDS has introduced a procedure to change the address on their ration card. There are two ways to do this. One is by visiting your nearest TNPDS office. Bring along the original ration card and proof of your current address such as a utility bill or a government-issued ID. The officials will verify the documents and update the address on the ration card. The other way is to change the address on your ration card through the TNPDS online portal. Simply log in to the portal using your ration card number and other details. Then, update your address and upload the required documents. After the officials verify the documents, they will update the address on the ration card and allot you a Shop Code based on your living area.
