Central has no proposal to introduce ‘Parents Care Leave’ on line of ‘Child Care Leave’..!
The Central Government has not put forward any proposition to introduce a ‘Parents Care Leave’ policy that would run parallel to the ‘Child Care Leave’ policy. This means that, unlike the provision for child care, there is no official leave available for working parents to care for their elderly or ailing parents. The government’s stance on this issue remains unclear, leaving many to wonder whether such a policy will be implemented in the future.
The Minister of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, Shri. V. Narayanasamy, has stated in a written response to a question in Rajya Sabha that there are no plans to introduce Parent Care Leave similar to Child Care Leave (CCL).
He responded, stating that the Global Age Watch Index is a tool used to assess the standard of living and happiness of elderly citizens on a global scale. This assessment takes into account various factors such as economic stability, social welfare, and political climate. India’s ranking in this index is 73rd out of a total of 91 countries evaluated.
The provision for Parent Care Leave on the same lines as Child Care Leave (CCL) is not under consideration by the Government. CCL is exclusively granted to female Central Government employees, aimed at increasing the number of women in Government service. A range of leave options are already available to Central Government employees, which can be utilized for appropriate reasons.
