The RTE Act of 2009 mandates the Government to provide free and compulsory education in elementary classes (I to VIII) for all children. As a result, only students studying in classes IX and X are eligible for the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme offered by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Starting from 2022-23, the Pre Matric Scholarship Scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs will also cover only classes IX and X.
