The Election Commission of India has provided state-wise details regarding the number of voters with disabilities who chose to exercise their right to vote from the comfort of their homes during the recently conducted State elections. The following is a breakdown of the figures:
- Chhattisgarh: 1501 voters with disabilities opted for voting from home.
- Madhya Pradesh: 21051 voters with disabilities opted for voting from home.
- Mizoram: 170 voters with disabilities opted for voting from home.
- Rajasthan: 12121 voters with disabilities opted for voting from home.
- Telangana: 9961 voters with disabilities opted for voting from home.
According to the Election Commission, the eligibility criteria for Absentee Voters in the category of Persons with Disability (AVPD) require the individual to be flagged in the electoral roll database and possess a benchmark disability certificate, certifying a disability of no less than 40% as determined by the relevant certifying authority under section 2 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
