Gujrat Titans had a fairy-tale finish in their debutant season after defeating the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022 final. GT, led by their explosive all-rounder captain Hardik Pandya, played almost every match with one batter short. Instead of a batsman, they opted for the all-rounder Rahul Tewatia at position 6 and the mystery spinner Rashid Khan at position 7. If the first and second down batsman did not fire, then Hardik Pandya, who, with his aggressive batting, would bat deep into the innings to score a comfortable target for his team to defend.

The IPL 2023 mini-auction was held at Kochi on the 16th of December 2022, and just like other IPL teams, Gujarat Titans also decided to release some of those players and buy fresh ones from the auction.
However, GT management and Hardik Pandya decided to retain most of their players and keep their strategies the same. Before the auction, they traded their lightning-fast bowler Lockie Ferguson and Rahamanullah Gurbaz with KKR and released prominent names like Jason Roy and Dominic Drakes.
GT arrived at IPL 2023 auction with INR 19.25 crore with the slot of 3 overseas players and 4 Indian players. So they bought Kane Williamson, KS Bharat, Odean Smith, Mohit Sharma, Shivam Mavi, and Joshua Little.

After a successful campaign, Gujarat Titans retained most of their players. So apart from the new players they bought, their squad is nearly the same.

Like the other IPL teams, Gujarat Titans also had to cut ties with prominent players like Jason Roy. In 2022 Jason Roy played only 11 t20s, out of which he scored only 206 runs at an average of 18.72 and a strike rate of a mere 104.04. Additionally, he was not picked by the England T20 team for the world cup. Also, he was picked up at a base price of INR 2 crore by GT in 2022; however, later, he decided to sit out the tournament. These are the major reasons why he was released.
