Sunrisers Hyderabad Team Players List 2023 – SRH Captain, Retained and Released Players List

The famous Australian cricket legend, Steve Waugh once said, “In India, cricket isn’t just a sport; it’s a religion.” Well, this is actually true. Apart from the World Cups and the Asian Cup, there is another cricketing event known as the Indian Premier League or IPL, which has a massive fan following both in India and different parts of the world.

Till now, we have witnessed 15 successful seasons of IPL, and the league has a total of 10 franchise teams that are owned by popular celebrities and business people. One team that became popular after their maiden IPL title in 2016 is the Sunrisers Hyderabad, aka SRH. The team was formed in the 2013 edition of IPL after the Deccan Chargers team was dissolved.

Here’a brief overview on the SRH team’s 2023 auction overview.

The IPL mini-auction held in December 2022 was very important for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The franchise came in with the biggest purse of INR 42.25 croreand did a wonderful job filling up the 13 slots they had left after releasing some of their previous players.

After the auction, they had INR 6.55 crore remaining, and we can expect that in 2023, SRH will come up much stronger.

In this mini option, SRH management put their funds to great use and made some of the best purchases. They bought the in-form English batsman Harry Brook for a whopping INR 13.25 crore, and they even bought one of the best spinners, Adil Rashid.

Batsmen: Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Amolpreet Singh, Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi, and Abdul Samad.

Wicketkeeper: Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Reddy, Upendra Yadav, Glen Philips.

Bowlers: Adil Rashid, Mayank Markande, Sanvir Singh, Akeal Hosein, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kartik Tyagi, Bhubaneswar Kumar, Umran Malik, and T Natarajan.

All-rounders: Vikrant Sharma, Samarth Vyas, Mayank Dagar, Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, and Marco Jansen.

SRH won their first IPL trophy in 2016 under the leadership of David Warner. After his release, Kane Williamson took over the captaincy, and SRH was doing well. But the team’s performance was not good in IPL 2022, and due to the poor performance of Kane Williams, the team decided to cut ties with him before the auction.

Currently, SRH has quite a few options for captaincy but has not yet decided on SRH’s team captain 2023.
According to media reports, Bhubaneswar Kumar, the most experienced candidate, can lead SRH in 2023. Apart from him, other eligible candidates are Mayank Agarwal and Aiden Markram.

The Orange Army retained the least number of players before the auction. They had retained a total of 12 players, from the likes of Bhubaneswar Kumar to Washington Sundar to Glen Philips.

Apart from the most shocking decision of releasing Kane Williamson before the mini-auction, the franchise also let go of a few other players due to the consistently poor performance in the previous IPLs.
Here is the SRH Team Released Players 2023: Kane Williamson, Jagadeesha Suchith, Vishnu Vinod, Sushant Mishra, Saurabh Dubey, Nicholas Pooran, Shashank Singh, Priyam Garg, Shreyas Gopal Romario Shepherd, Sean Abbott, and R Samarth.

So currently, the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise has a total of 25 players, which includes 17 Indian players and 8 overseas players. Last year, they released David Warner, who was quickly bought by Delhi Capitals, and he has been doing extremely well.

So did Sunrisers Hyderabad make a mistake by releasing Kane Williamson? For that, we have to wait until March 2023.
