Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Subscription (Contribution) Rates as per 7th Pay Commission

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) has provided updated subscription rates for availing its facilities, taking into account the 7th Pay Commission. As per the revised rates, individuals who fall under Pay Matrix levels 1 to 5 will have to pay Rs. 250 per month, those under level 6 will have to pay Rs. 450 per month, levels 7 to 11 will have to pay Rs. 650 per month, and levels 12 and above will have to pay Rs. 1000 per month. These rates have been in effect since February 1st, 2017.

Flexible Contribution Option in CGHS

For pensioners and family pensioners, the rate of contribution will be based on the level of pay they would have received had they remained in service at the time of their retirement or death. Pensioners applying for CGHS Smart cards on an annual or lifetime basis after January 31st, 2017 will be required to pay according to the revised rates. In cases where both husband and wife are employed in Central government services covered by the scheme, the contribution will be deducted from the individual with the higher pay.

CGHS Contribution Revised Rates

Monthly Contribution for availing CGHS facility as per 7th CPC:

CGHS Contribution Pre-Revised Rates

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) used to have pre-revised rates for its monthly contributions based on the grade pay as per the 6th Central Pay Commission (CPC) effective from 1st June 2009. The contribution rates are as follows: for those with a grade pay up to Rs. 1650, the contribution is Rs. 50 per month; for those with grade pay of Rs. 1800, 1900, 2000, 2400, and 2800, the contribution is Rs. 125 per month; for those with grade pay of Rs. 4200, the contribution is Rs. 225 per month; for those with grade pay of Rs. 4600, 4800, 5400 and 6600, the contribution is Rs. 325 per month; and for those with grade pay of Rs. 7600 and above, the contribution is Rs. 500 per month.

Under the 7th CPC, the monthly subscription has increased five times for Pay Matrix Level 1 to Level 5 as compared to the 6th CPC. Pensioners are required to pay their subscription for a lifetime as well as a yearly base. The monthly contributions for availing of CGHS facility as per the 7th CPC and 6th CPC are mentioned above. Calculation of CGHS Life Time Subscription

Calculation of CGHS Life Time Subscription for Pensioners: The process of calculating the CGHS Life Time Subscription for Pensioners involves the option of selecting either a one-year or lifetime period. To obtain a lifetime card, a beneficiary must pay ten years’ worth of contributions upfront. For instance, a retired employee in pay level 6 who pays Rs. 450 per month would be required to make a lifetime contribution of Rs. 54,000, calculated as follows: monthly contribution of Rs. 450, yearly contribution of Rs. 5400 (450 x 12), and a ten-year contribution sum of Rs. 54,000 (5400 x 10). CGHS Contribution as per 6th CPC

Below are the monthly subscription details for CGHS Subscription Old Rates, effective 1st June 2009, based on Grade Pay as per 6th CPC:
1. For Grade Pay up to 1650, the contribution is Rs. 50 per month.
2. For Grade Pay of Rs.1800, 1900, 2000, 2400 and 2800, the contribution is Rs. 125 per month.
3. For Grade Pay of Rs.4200, the contribution is Rs. 225 per month.
4. For Grade Pay of Rs.4600, 4800, 5400 and 6600, the contribution is Rs. 325 per month.
5. For Grade Pay of Rs.7600 and above, the contribution is Rs. 500 per month.
