Anna varsity to conduct single entrance test for M.E and M. Tech
To end confusion among students, Anna varsity to conduct single entrance test for M.E and M. Tech
Vice Chancellor, M.K. Soorappa has announced that Anna University shall conduct the TANCET (entrance exams for M. Tech and M.E courses) tests this year too. This puts to end the confusion among students if they should write two separate entrance exams for M. Tech and M.E courses.
Out of the blue, Anna University announced last week that it would conduct special entrance exams for the M. Tech and M.E. courses offered by its affiliated colleges this year. This left the students wondering who would conduct the TANCET exams for colleges that are not affiliated to Anna University, and when the applications would be called for. Anna University and the Tamil Nadu Department of Higher Education were headed at loggerheads ever since controversy began over the B.E and B. Tech admissions. The Anna University Vice Chancellor is usually the head of the student enrollment committee for engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu. Changes were made to this in the 2019-2020 academic year, and the Department of Higher Education issued a Government Order, which said that the Director of Technical Education was being appointed the joint chief of the engineering admissions’ committee. Following this, Vice chancellor M.K. Soorappa announced his resignation from the position of chief of the students’ admission committee. The Department of Higher Education accepted his resignation. As a result, the task of conducting this year’s admission counselling was handed over to the Department of Technical Education. These developments created lot of confusions among students. Will the DoTE conduct the TANCET exams (for M.E. and M. Tech courses) too, like the B.E. and B. Tech courses, or will Anna University continue to conduct those entrance exams? Will there be two entrance exams – for Anna University and for other colleges? Meanwhile, the DoTE advised Anna University to not conduct separate entrance exams for M.E and M. Tech, and hold one common test for both the courses. Soon, an advisory committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Anna University Vice Chancellor, M.K. Soorappa, to discuss about the TANCET exams.
While addressing a press meet after the discussions, Mr. Soorappa said, “Anna University shall conduct the TANCET exams this year too. The earlier announced Anna University common entrance exam will not be conducted this time.”
Anna University is expected to formally make announcements on TANCET in a day or two.
