Amavasya is good or bad?
Particularly in India, people often debate whether Amavasya is a beneficial or harmful day. It is believed that Amavasya is a very potent day and is sometimes referred to as the New Moon day. It is said that Amavasya is not suitable for Subha Activities such as Marriage, Phoomi Puja, and House Warming. Every four weeks, Amāvāsyā is seen as a fortunate day for venerating ancestors and poojas are carried out. It is advisable to abstain from consuming meat, fish and alcohol during Amavasya.
What is Special in Amavasya?
Hindus observe Amavasya, the day of the new moon, as an important period; it is a time when certain rituals can only be performed. Mondays are known as Somavar Amavasya, while Saturdays are referred to as Sani Amavasya particularly in Tamil Nadu. Because of its significance, Amavasya is thought to be an ideal time for a Shraddha ceremony to pay homage to ancestors. Additionally, it is an appropriate day for a Kalasarpa Dosha puja.
