Public Holiday on Thaipusam
The Thaipusam Festival is one of the most important festivals celebrated in Tamil Nadu in honor of the Tamil god Lord Murugan. This festival is celebrated not only in Tamil Nadu but also in the state of Puducherry, Kerala. Thaipusam is also celebrated in Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Malaysia.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that while touring various districts, the public demanded that the Thaipusam Festival be given a public holiday in Tamil Nadu. Considering this request, I have ordered that the Thaipusam festival, which will be celebrated on January 28, be declared a public holiday and that the Thaipusam festival be added to the list of public holidays in future years.
